Background

Emotional well-being is a primary component of mental health and well-being. Monitoring changes in emotional state daily over extended periods is, however, difficult using traditional methodologies. Providing mental health support is also challenging when approximately only 1 in 2 people with mental health issues seek professional help. Mobile phone technology offers a sustainable means of enhancing self-management of emotional well-being.

Objective

Our solution is aimed at providing a convenient wearable device together with a user friendly mobile application to monitor emotional changes in a natural everyday context and in real time. It helps:
•General users to monitor their stress level so that they can aware the emotional status and relax themselves when in stress. It benefits mental and physical health.
•Medical professional to monitor the emotional status of patients in hospital.
•Age care centre to monitor the emotion of elderly people.

Background

Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) is getting popular in warehouses and manufacturers. The price of AGV is expensive especially the highly intelligent AGV solutions. It prevents AGV applications.

Objective

The objective of this project is to develop an low cost and highly intelligent AGV so that it can apply in many different application sites such as laundry, hospital, etc. in addition to the warehouse and factory.

Microwave processed to kill weeds

Microwave Weed Killer

Background

Farming is a labour consuming industry. The removal of weeds before sowing is always the most time consuming task for organic farming when chemicals are not used. It is often very difficult to kill the weeds thoroughly. Although chemicals are used in inorganic farming, it would take as long as two weeks to kill those harmful weeds. In case of raining, the chemical weed killer may easily be washed off, adversely affecting its effectiveness. Chemical weed killer is also found to be cancer causing.

Our Solutions

Microwave technology is a cost-effective and -efficient means weeds for the farming industry to get rid of those noxious weeds. It does not pollute the soil, and the result trumps that of using artificial chemicals. We have done R&D work on this very urgent project of applying Microwave technology in the weed killer machine. It is the same type of energy used in domestic microwave ovens. Results have shown that with optimisation the way we deploy the technology, weeds can be eradicated as quick as in 2 seconds. This is impressive compared to the weed killing chemicals. Microwave technology does not depend on weather conditions; does not have to wait for a chemical reaction to take place; and most importantly, farmers do not have to deal with the problem of herbicide resistance. The effect of Microwave according to the experimental results was virtually instant with the optimised approach. Projecting from the 2-second performance, the Microwave technique can kill weeds at the rate of 5 to 10 km/hr — an ideal rate that any farmer would like to get rid of weeds in the farm

EV Quick Charger Station

Electric Vehicle Quick Charger Control and Payment System

Project Description

The EV Quick Charger Control and Payment System is part of the project of Electric Vehicle Quick Charge. It is developed for (i) remote control and monitoring of the Charger and (ii) billing interfacing with Octopus system as well as operator’s billing system with RFID.

The entire Quick Charger Station and the payment system consist of the following key elements or equivalent.

  • EV Quick Charger to CHAdeMo standard.
  • Octopus/Electronic key (RFID) for payment and billing function.
  • Data hub.
  • Communication components to remote control and monitoring with the necessary information (e.g. metering data, charging information, control data, stc.) between operator backend system and the quick charging stations.
  • Software portal to be hosted in operator server hardware for monitoring and controlling of the EV Quick Charging operation and payment.

Project Scope

An EV Quick Charger Control and Payment System is built to allow the operator backend centre to monitor the operation of EV Quick Chargers, to collect EV data in a “close to real-time” manner and handle the payment of charging using Octopus and/or operator RFID card. The software portal is running in a server loaded with MS Windows 2008 Server platform as well as the MS SQL Server 2008 R2 for massive data storage and data exchange with other operation such as billing. The Server is installed inside the data center of operator and it can be assessable by internal workstations via operator data network with user accessible control. At WAN side, the Server is linked up by the APN connecting to the server portal of dedicated Mobile Network Provider to establish a “always ON’ TCP connection between EV Quick Charger Management Portal and the local EV charger for rapid data exchange.

Octopus and operator RFID card payment system are applicable for (1) time-based charge scheme and (2) energy-based (kWh) charge scheme.

Octopus
– The Central Control Unit in the Kiosk of EV Quick Charger Station provides a RS232 communication port and Linux based operation system to drive Octpus reader hardware.
-The system is designed with the capability to record Octopus transaction data and scheduled batch upload to the software portal backend.
-The system is designed with the capability to transfer the blacklist update patch information from the software portal backend through RS232 communication port to Octopus reader hardware.

RFID
-It is used as the unique identification key to authenticate the authorized user in order to access the quick charger hardware.
-It coordinates with the backend software portal to keep track of users’ electricity consumption and billing information for customer to issues bill payment.
-Upon successful user validation, the quick charger is to be activated.

HVAC efficiency Monitoring System

HVAC Energy Efficiency Monitoring System

Project Description

The Energy Efficiency Monitoring system is designed for monitoring the efficiency of chiller of a HVAC system. The system is applied in public hospitals for energy efficiency monitoring.

The entire system consist of the following key elements.

  • A Windows Server.
  • A software in Windows Server to analyze and present the data collected.
  • A Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) with built-in 3-phase Electrical Energy Meter is used to measure electrical voltage, current, energy and power. It also acts as central box to collect data from built-in 3-phase electrical energy meter and the external ultrasonic flow meter.
  • Ultrasonic flow meters to measure the airflow.

DCU is connected to server via Ethernet. The DCU gets the readings of electrical energy meter and ultrasonic flow meters every 10 seconds. The data collected will store in the internal memory of DCU and upload to the server daily.

In the server, the application software will present the data in graphical chart and analyze the data obtained and calculate the COP.
